Result !

Dear Fellow Tranzum-ians,

Following, below ...are the Positive Story Winners.
The results have been based on my personal evaluation of how much the story 'inspired' me, how much it 'motivated' me, and how much it 'uplifted' my spirit.

So to be honest, a very subjective evaluation !

I am sure you will individually have a different set of results.
In judging the stories based on the criteria of inspiring, motivating and uplifting I faced great difficulty in not judging overly in favor of all those stories that were great examples of practicing the values that have been set for us by the Chairman. The reason I say that is because I am now of the belief that for almost all TCS people... practicing honesty, working efficiently and leading with exemplary conduct is not only understood to be a given but the normal way of our work life. There should not be any expectation for acknowledgement for doing things that are now ingrained as part of our work culture .

Practicing the values that the Chairman has set for us is now a norm with all TCS people .
The Positive stories that will give us a quantum leap into the future will be those acts that inspire, motivate and uplift our spirits while practicing ingrained values.
These attributes is the stuff leaders are made of... and 'leadership' is all about.
INSPIRE ! …….... with a great Vision MOTIVATE !..... by Leading from the Front And UPLIFT !.....the spirits by acknowledging and accepting our strengths while overcoming our weaknesses.

Coming back to the winners, because all efforts in all stories were genuine and sincere attempts at creating a positive image of TCS and the TCS People therefore to be fair to every one each contributions merits a reward .

TCS Mission Statement !  Posted by Picasa

Trouvay Cauvin in Jebel Ali has been using our domestic services for the past 9 years. I have been trying to push TCS into their International business services, but due to a lot of competition in the market I wasnt able to get a better response, had certain visits to establish ourselves and introduce our various services to them.

Beginning of this month, the in charge of logistic department called for a quote for one of their urgent heavy shipment for Kuwait to be delivered before 9:00a.m. They tried their service providers, but they couldnt assure the delivery before 9:00 am. I have quoted our best rates along with guarante from our agent in Kuwait. Basically they were working on one of the Kuwait Government project, and this part was really very sensitive and has to reach within the time frame.

The major obstacle in this deal was the time to clear this shipment from the Jebel Ali Customs, which indeed is a lengthy process to go through. Discussed with our route courier Mr. Khawar, who has been serving in this area for the past 3 years, documentations such as Gate pass, Bill of Exit, Delivery advice and a certificate of origin are mandatory to clear such shipments from the customs, With Khawer's personal relationship with the customs officials, we could overcome this and cleared the shipment on time and forwarded through our agent. The shipment was cleared on priority basis and delivered before 9:00am in Kuwait.

This incident implied us that if you have the courage to face the challenge with your strong determination and knowledge, than no force can stop you to succeed. This was a good team work and I personally thank Khawar, who not only guided and assisted but also helped to introduce TCS Express at the right time.

FORTEENTH Positive STORY

THIRTEENTH Positive STORY

May 22, 2006 22:15hrs. Operations team was very busy in manifesting and packing the material for dispatch to Karachi via AIR BLUE. Suddenly I received a call from Naushad (BDM SHJ) at 22:25hrs , he wanted us to get a shipment collected and connect it for KHI, which was so much impossible, as we were left with hardly 10-15 minutes , (hand over time to Airline is 22:40hrs) . I called up the shipper to check, she was very much worried and wanted the shipment to reach the next morning, I explained her that we were out of time and it can be only possible if she goes half the way to the cargo village at the connection point, she was so glad to hear this and agreed, also she was closer to this point luckily by the grace of God, I spoke to her on the phone as she was driving to the cargo village and filled in the airway bill. Later I updated the airline staff that TCS cargo will delay few minutes, they agreed as we had a very good relation. When my staff reached at cargo village she was eagerly waiting for TCS. It got connected at 23:00hrs, sent a pre- alert to KHI for urgent delivery also sms’d Kamran on this, these were some very important documents for a hospital which had to reach on time, later in the morning updated her with the delivery details, she was so happy and thanked us for all the team work that we offered and our services were the best! I replied that these are our core values to serve our customers with QUALITY & ETHICAL BEHAVIOUR, I would like to thank all those involved, Samad, Tahir, Najeeb & Tcs Karachi Kamran. Without you guys nothing would have been possible , yeah !

TWELVETH Positive STORY

Positive attitude

Most of the times annoyed customer is the best teacher. A satisfied customer usually does not communicate with us or they don't need to communicate with us to highlight our strengths or weaknesses. We should be honest, fair, accept our mistakes and should face problems in their real aspects so it should not remain a problem any more. Inspirational, ethical and just full behavior should be the guideline principal to shape our attitude in our day-to-day dealings with others. Our attitude should be towards team building especially if you are a part of service industry. Here, I would like to share an experience.

The story entails its worth by a gratifying end-result, out of a mishap, in the form of strengthening relationship and boosting goodwill of company in the eye of customer. The customers expressed their admiration of seeing a wonderful demonstration of team work and commitment of TCS employees to deliver maximum to their customers in all circumstances. The story began with the loss of a cheque, dispatched by an ABL branch for clearing in ISB. The grievance of the bank was intensified owing not only to the materiality of amount of Cheque of Rs. 5 million, but, two-folded by the fact that bank's client, Baluchistan University of IT & Management, had a limited time to get amount credited to its account before the elapse of budgeted year. The chronology of events unfolded as follows

Day 1.
The Branch Manager inquired about the cheque. The status of the shipment could not be tracked out at the destination. After carrying out all necessary procedures to trace out the shipment, the destination declared the shipment as lost.

Day 2.
The branch manager was soft, polite and a cooperative person. He expressed his concern that his client, BUITMS, is very much concern about the immediate clearing of this cheque as the budget against which this is issued was about to elapse. He was, also, concerned about that this mishap may affect his recommendation for a new bank branch manager and it was the first high-value cheque which could affect his reputation.

I, as the Sales Manager, decided to help out the Bank Manager even if we need to go out of the way. I briefed the ABM about the issue who allowed me open hand to handle the matter. The first thing I had got to do the beneficiary of the cheque, government university with relatively bureaucratic style of rules & regulation and attitude of higher officials. They were, of course, annoyed but as far P.S to vice chancellor was a personal contact of mine, he, therefore, was taken in confidence and briefed to convince the vice chancellor to sort out the issue instead of making this an issue against us (TCS). He realized the importance of resolving the issue and convinced the vice chancellor. A personal meeting was conducted with the vice chancellor who is a high profile chap having previous experience of NASA(USA).

Day 3.
A request was taken in letter form, from university and personally taken to officials at State Bank of Pakistan in which there were two points
1- Reissue the cheque
2- Delay the payment dates for the cheque.
Along with the letter we attached a letter from our company TCS declaring the shipment as lost which was carrying the cheque in it.

Day 4.
The whole day I was at State Bank and providing feedback to university officials about the matter. Dealing with bureaucracy have it's own irritation especially when you know that they want you to sit and wait for them. But once you learn their attitude you start enjoying it and you smile in your heart, saying look at them as if they are not aware that they are just wasting my time, nothing more than that and they want me to realize that how important they are for you at the moment.

Day 5.
This day started with my first visit to the university and than next visit to State Bank of Pakistan. Thanks to them that they informed me immediately about their direct communication with the vice chancellor about the extension of time limit for the cheque and reconstruction of the cheque. That was some how a normal day for me where I have had a feeling that not hiding the story of the lost shipment and facing it on its front was a right decision.

Day 6
Sitting with the bank branch manager at ABM office in his presence over a hot cup of coffee made me realize that we should always be honest and instead of hiding behind the wall we should face our errors and accept our mistakes and rectify them. These words struck my mind when the bank manager said I think we have countered the situation and things seems to be pretty normal.

Day 7
Vice chancellor called me in person and not only he thanked our organization for providing documentary proof of lost shipment in time, he appreciated our team work also. Where our ABM , CSD staff and myself were really involved in the affair.
Bank manager used to have a cup of tea every evening with our ABM who spared enough time for him to keep him calm and he was saved from an explanation letter from his higher officials. He still visits us and sometime we share the happenings of the event. “I like coming to your office because over here I feel you people really work like a team every job is every ones job" he always gives his comments as a reason why he loves visiting our office….
I feel proud when it reflects our CEO’s –

THINK OUT OF BOX . THINK TCS!

ELEVENTH POSITIVE STORY

The job of a pick up coordinator is very stressful and full of commitments. I have been performing my duty for the past 3 years as a dispatcher. It's about 4 months ago; a cash customer had called during the lunch time to pick up her important documents and to deliver it at one of the clinic in Jumeirah area.

Knowing the situation that all the couriers were on lunch break after a tough day, I got on the bike and decided to do it by myself.
When I reached at her residence I found that the lady was pregnant, and her husband was out of town and it was an urgent report for her doctor. I collected those documents and went to the clinic and delivered directly instead of bringing back to office, later I sent the airwaybill through the route courier.

I called the lady and informed her that we delivered the documents to the doctor. She was very much happy and blessed me with lot of prayers and passed very impressive comments about TCS. I personally felt proud and good about myself, and it reminds me the ETHICAL BEHAVIOUR and EXEMPLARY CONDUCT, which are the part of our Core Values.

TENTH POSITIVE story

Mr. Liu, one of our customer Decent Express, based in China had called up at 19:30hrs for an urgent delivery for two of their consignments in Bur Dubai textile market. Bags were late received from DNATA and got cleared at 19:20hrs by Pasha (EMC operator) in cargo village. George (Sales Manager) received several calls from China for these deliveries; He requested to have it done immediately. There were no one at OPS for this job to make it done before consignee office closes, few vehicle couriers were off for the day and some were in the field doing their regular activities, To them I couldn’t disturb, I called up Najeeb (Courier Officer) at his home and explained the situation. Without any hesitation he said that he will do the delivery, He went to Cargo village picked up the shipment and rushed for delivery. He delivered the shipment at 21:00hrs and I updated this to Mr. Liu of Decent Express in China that his shipments got delivered, He was very much excited upon hearing this and said that TCS have saved their business, as he was about to loose it, We are proud of NAJEEB who had always shown a positive response to the Team call whenever and where ever. Thank you NAJEEB.

Team members - Mohammad Yousuf (Ops Asst.); Pasha (EMC)Najeeb (Courier Officer) Alfonso (Courier Officer) Akbar (Courier Officer)Ayub (OPS Asst.)Sharjeel (CSD) Rajesh (CSD) George (Sales Manager)

Later to this, Mr. Liu has sent a letter of Thanks to the TCS team; he has thanked each and every staff involved in its clearance from the customs to the delivery point. This is a great achievement for TCS inline to our core values.. Well done guys!!

Nine- th POSITIVE story

First of all thanks to JJ Sahab to give this opportunity to individuals to Share their feelings, experience and achievements.

My story is very simple and small

INTRODUCTION:

Being with TCS since September 2004 in Finance , although my background is all together from different Industry but fortunately got this opportunity and started my career with TCS and I discovered a great environment at TCS and a Great feeling developed in working under TCS professionals. After few months of my joining, in view of my strength the management decided to bring me in Sales & Recovery, at the beginning I was not too quite sure that I would be able to handle the new responsibility but gradually I learned that there are lot more to learn and this was more fun, Keeping In view great opportunities in this field I am very excited to learn more. I found my self on top, and yes it happened and is happening.

E-vision: This was not paying since August 2005, I discussed with my team and took initiative to take this challenge to recover the outstanding. “THINGS DON’T WORK ON PHONES “. I personally visited the customer and made them realize how it affects TCS if payments are not made on time. After continuous calling and follow up provide them all related invoices and AWB and Statement of accounts we got the payment from them. “NOW THINGS CHANGED”I feel proud when
E-Vision calls and asks for only me in case any assistance they required.

CLR TRADING: This is our client who has not been paying since July 2005. I started follow up with invoices faxing alongwith statement of accounts, no response was coming from them. I spoke to our GM and he asked me to visit them. I found the directors cell # ( Christ) I called him at last, he asked the same question about SOA and invoices from the beginning, I kept a set in my car and It was in the evening that I left all documents at his office but after that he disappeared again .Due to my constant follow up, he finally called me and paid the outstanding ,he called me at a shopping mall at 9:00pm and handed over the cheque.

BENQ (ME) FZE: This customer was not paying since long and when I started follow up on recovery, they said that they have stopped using our services long time back. After going through all our records I confirmed that they are still using us, later the case had gone to their Admin Manager (Ms. Cindy) after continuous mailing and sending her all related documents , and also involving Shabeen as it was his territory, she got satisfied and sent me a mail that they needed some time to verify .At last I got mail from Benq that our chq is ready for payment. I felt proud and I thank specially to Mazhar who taught me how to deal with difficult customers.

EXPERIENCE I GAINED: after a very close follow up and continuous discussions and reconciliation of statements and invoices I have managed and achieved my aim by collecting cheques against the efforts which I had put on to clearing the pending issues with various customers.
If you do what you love, everything else will follow.

Eighth POSITIVE Story

There was a customer on the 1st of May . I remember clearly, he asked me the rate for 25, 30 & 50 Kg non doc rate for US & UK, .He earlier used Skycom and had their rates which were a little lesser. I explained him about our services and our ethical values, he had little knowledge about us but after I explained about us, he was very much impressed .Later I gave him a better rate, as he mentioned that he had more shipments to send for the days to come . Later on the 3rd he came back with three boxes of more than 75 kg for UK which he is now sending regularly . I now make the effort to regularly update him on the delivery details ... on time .
He appreciates this attention to details and is very very happy to use TCS for his courier needs . I too feel happy and delighted .This is my application of our core values set by the management – PROFITABLITY THROUGH EFFICIENCY

Yaqoob Patel –Sharjah Express Centre

Seventh POSITIVE story

One of our Co loader Xpert Courier had a very urgent delivery to Abu Dhabi; The capital city of UAE, which is about 150 km from the Main office , and 200km from us in Sharjah at the express Centre , the shipment was dropped at our office after the connection van from sharjah to Dubai had already departed . Patel , the Express Centre operator called me for help , it was the lunch break at noon , first I listened gently as I could hear Patel very upset and that we had to provide them our best services , so I voluntarily got the shipment and delivered it directly to the main office in Dubai to connect to Abu Dhabi . It was well on time though the traffic from my way to the Dubai office w as bumper to bumper . This was a very satisfying act in line with the value of practicing excellence and ethics in whatever we do..... a value set for us by our Chairman Mr. Khalid Awan .. profitability through Efficiency , with Justice , Ethical behavior & Exemplary Conduct

Jamil – Courier Code # 67

Sixth POSITIVE story

We have a regular cash customer since the launch of Sharjah Express Centre in the person of Mr. Satnam Gosal Singh who was using Sky Com earlier .Let me share how we got him . One fine day passing through our office he brought a light sample and inquired about the rates , I explained about TCS and gained his confidence to use us and also quoted good rates which was tailored to his needs .He however chose to take the shipment to Sky Com . After 20 minutes he came back to TCS and booked the parcel and requested delivery details after 2-3 days.

In a few days he came back to book some spare parts to Burkino Fuso weighing 92.5kg and by mistake Express Centre – Operator Patel charged him Dhs.5500 .Much more than the tariff rate . Mr. Singh paid and went back to Dhaid about 75 km from Sharjah . Patel called me and informed me what we charged .

I checked our cost for the destination which was Dhs. 4500 .We had therefore charged the customer Dhs.1000 over and above the normal charge .We then felt it is not fair with customer as it is against our values and affects the TCS reputation, .I decided to immediately call the customer Satnam Gosal Singh and said that as a good regular customer we would like return you Dhs.1000 , he was happy on this . I asked him to collect it anytime from our office .
From that day on he has always used us for courier and trusted us .We felt satisfied ,happy and secure ,he also mentioned that no body ever returns any paid money in this country . We took the decision in line with the value of practicing ethics in whatever we do..... a value set for us by our Chairman Mr. Khalid Awan .

Naushad Haider naushad@tcsuae.com Business development Manager

Fifth POSITIVE story

We received an e-mail from Ms Joann (Customer Services) about a shipment coming from our co loader Linex London which was to be delivered on Saturday at any cost.(Next morning) .

The pre - alert received was for a shipment 13 pieces weighing 129 kg as exhibition material which as per Dubai customs is dutiable item. As the shipment had to be cleared on priority basis from customs we needed accurate paper works. I planned and made arrangements to clear the shipment from customs, we called
Ms Sapna Saran who was in the organization team, but she said that she had no details about the shipment, and then we called Wendy Richard whose name and mobile number was also mentioned on the pre- alert, but in vain ,his mobile was switched off.

Then looking at the priority of the shipment I decided to visit EMC (TCS Airport Office) on Friday ( Public Holiday) and met with customs manager personally in regards to the shipment, After 04 hrs the shipment was released from customs without customs duty.

When Shariq Mahmood GM – UK inquired about the shipment we confirmed him that the shipment was released and were scheduled to be delivered on
Saturday morning before 0900. He was much pleased.

On Saturday morning I am came in and made the arrangement for delivery as it was committed on given address, Our courier attempted delivery at 08.00am in the morning, but no one was there to receive, we tried again and the shipment was delivered at 09.30am.

FOURTH Positive STORY

WE HAVE A REPUTATION TO DELIVER

Jumeirah is a large residential area of Dubai. it includes hundreds of villas, mostly the European family are living here. The similar type of streets and similar villa numbers could confuse you very much in getting any location among these villas.

At the end of last summer one morning I got one document from Abu Dhabi. it was addressed to john...Jumeirah and mobile # was mentioned. I did not know the address. so I called john for location. He explained me that his villa is in the middle of jumaira..2. It was such a difficult location, he also told me to come after 12:30 pm because he was out from his house.

I promised John that I shall reach at 12:30 for the delivery of the document. I started my deliveries from sh.zayed road.

At 12:30 sharp I reached at the gate of john’s house. I rang the bell couple of times ,but no body came out, at last I called john on his mobile to ask him to open the door, but he told me that he is on the way to home and will reach with in next 15 minutes’ had no option except to wait.

it was very hot day, there was no shade or a tree around that place, hot air was coming from every side, after 20 minutes john reached there. He was happy to receive his document. It was very important document for him because he was planning to fly Kuwait that evening for a business meeting.

He thanked me that I delivered his document on time; my shirt was wet with sweat, when he saw me with motorcycle. he told me that it is very dangerous to drive a motor bike on the speedy roads of Dubai and much difficult in this terrible hot weather. I explained him “sir, did you ever think about those pilots who operate an Airplane and always be in the air, their job is more risky and dangerous then mine because at least my work is on the ground. When I see those poor labors who continuously work under heat on the roads, and a bakery man who makes food for us in very high temperature, I always feel that my job is not much difficult as compared to those peoples. it is all depends on the nature of your work. If someone is sincere to his job nothing is difficult and dangerous in this world!

John was much impressed by this thinking. He gave me some cash as a reward. I proposed him to use TCS in future, I gave him my business card and TCS rate list for different zones. he was surprised to see the good courier rates, before he was using another multinational courier company and their charges were very high. he told me that he will send one document to uk the next day and will call us only. Next day he called for a pick up in our office I went myself to pick the first document from a new customer. now John always calls us for his all courier documents and asks pick up coordinator to send Imtiaz in Jumeirah . I feel proud that I got a permanent cash costumer for my company and... John is very much satisfied with the services, he has forgotten all other couriers companies, he knows only TCS...........

After all.....we have a reputation to deliver..................

Imtiaz Hussain - Courier Officer TCS

...THIRD Positive STORY

I am Hassaine Abdullatif, and this is my story in TCS Express ,Dubai .

I came from Algeria for the first time to U.A.E in 2001 to have a new experience in my life and started working in TCS last year (2005). This company has done a lot for me because I didn’t know anything before in this field, the field of courier.

Indeed, I learnt many things in different domains working with the sales and accounts team with great assistance & help from Mazhar; our General Manager. Another thing, I met new friends from different companies and nationalities with whom we try to develop our company business. Our main aim is to make this company as famous as possible in U.A.E and " why not throughout all over the world ?" . In addition to this, and this for my own person is the language; the English language. Although I studied it for 5 years, it is here within the TCS team that I developed my English language through practice. In fact, I learnt a lot and I am still learning day by day. I wish to achieve the best in TCS Company and I believe that with more ambition and collectivity we can reach our goal.

Finally, I wish all the best for TCS Express in the nearest future God Willing.

Thank you for your kind attention to my story

SECOND POSITIVE Story

Individuals Inspire TCS Team to Achieve the Unthinkable

Following the devastating earthquake that razed the northern parts of Pakistan on October 8, 2005, I called COO Saqib Hamdani to get a go ahead to initiate our collective response to the tragedy that had left hundreds of thousands homeless and in dire need to assistance. The green light for immediate action came instantly.

At first, an individual attempt was made to establish a line of action. This created a chain reaction with officers and staff coming together like never before. Within hours, I found myself surrounded by concerned staffers looking for anything worthwhile they could do.

Calls for funds and material help at TCS Express Centers drew an unprecedented response. The nation had responded to our distress call. Food, blankets, medicines, and bottled water came in tidal waves. No one could have imagined such a reaction. Donations in cash amounted to Rs.3.7 million, which were duly presented to Mrs. Bilquis Edhi by Saira Awan, Saqib Abbas Hamdani and Ali Leghari.

We coordinated our efforts with the Edhi Foundation whose service to the nation needs no introduction. At first, the Foundation provided all possible logistic and moral support; however, it was only a matter of time before they too found it impossible to deal with the volume of contributions converging on to their HQ and area offices, and requested us to row our own boat.

This required instantaneous action, and our team decided to hire vehicles and deliver the goods personally. After the hectic journey to a ravaged land of demolished infrastructure and dying hope, we made it to Mansehra, Balakot and adjoining areas where we personally delivered food and medical supplies to more than 200 families. Where roads had been destroyed, we took the supplies on foot. There were no second thoughts.

We witnessed one of the after-shocks of the quake and had a brief glimpse of what the people of the area had been through. It was heart stopping watching everything swaying like stalks of wheat on a windy day. It was a moment that reminded us of our fragile existence and our team stood next to each other ensuring that we were not alone, and would not flinch from our mission.

Our aim was to target the areas that had not been catered to by the numerous NGOs and government agencies. Two 60-foot containers bearing around 120 tons of goods may not have been sufficient to eliminate the sufferings of those affected by the natural disaster, but it certainly eased the pain temporarily and proved that TCS cares in more ways than we generally conceive.

The most commendable part of this entire exercise was the domino effect witnessed among the TCS team members who never showed a sign of tiring or receding from the donkey-work that most officers would not think of doing in normal circumstances. Everyone involved- from menial workers to the highest authorities- helped us stack truckloads at the TCS Airport terminal, the express centers and the head office.

In times like these, our belief in teamwork is further fortified. This trying moment brought us all closer to each other and demonstrated that TCS is one unit, one individual with a unilateral goal to deliver when it matters most! Just like this story, nothing is done without a team effort.

First Positive Story

A Success Story in Making - Inshallah

For a story to be positive, you got to have a positive mindset. Life is all so positive, that I can’t even imagine anything negative. Waking up is great, breathing is awesome, walking is fun, sitting is delightful, and sleeping is peaceful…

Professional experiences are full of ups and downs, yet all positive and learning. I am working as T & D specialist with Octara, and beyond any doubt, it’s rocking. A divisional success story lies in form of Octara, which is shaping the Corporate Management Development services with new dimensions.

The POSITIVE relates to Octara. The story is real – continual – challenging yet inspiring.
Every morning, each and every staff of Octara team, comes with some pre-conceived notion – Telephone might not respond, light may not be available, email might be dead, cockroaches might be having a party on our desk, AC not working and many more.

When I joined this place, I thought I am in madhouse, but gradually, it all became my source of inspiration. Provided all the hazards mentioned earlier, everyone enters the adventurous office with a smile and a hope. No question on the fact that this is a true extreme of commitment and enthusiasm towards company’s vision.

Positivity is all in the attitude. It’s about the energy that flows inside out. My family members do get down sometimes, but surely, there is someone to embark the fun-filled energy. I was all down within a month, a thought of reconsidering my decision of joining Octara, but when God wants you be somewhere, you got to be there.

Octara laughs when others might cry, Octara cheers when others might boo, Octara wins when others might think backing-off, sometimes Octara gets upset when others might quit – its all about being positive…

Readers might still be looking for a story to come, but it’s a beginning of a success story. The is not one or two or more incidents, but there is a series of daily endeavors, which make us feel proud to be what we are – Family members of TCS…

May God Bless you all…
